FALLA The Three-Cornered Hat

COPLAND Symphony No. 3, “Great American”

Carlos Miguel Prieto, conductor

Musical America’s 2019 Conductor of the Year, Carlos Miguel Prieto, opens this program with Manuel de Falla’s deeply rhythmic Spanish ballet. Leonard Bernstein said of Copland’s Symphony No. 3, “The symphony has become an American monument like the Washington Monument or the Lincoln Memorial.” Copland wrote this music to celebrate the euphoric spirit in America at the close of World War II.
