Jacksonville Symphony: Tchaikovsky Symphony No.1

With a work the composer describes as “dreams of a winter journey,” a young Tchaikovsky was the first to compose a truly Russian symphony that did not attempt to imitate the looming Germanic style. Contained within are the sounds of the expansive tundra and intimate expression that became the hallmarks of Russian music well into the 20th century.
